All of our Trainers have personally succeeded with a dog that was aggressive, embarrassing, or just plain stressful to live with- they often inspired training as a career! We have been in your situation and want you to experience the joy and relief that comes from a really great training program that includes both you and your dog. Our training programs make everyday walks, car rides, and daily care easier and more enjoyable. When you can take your dog more places you will enjoy spending more time with them.
How we teach dogs
Learning is presented as a game that shows you and your dog how to achieve a big goal one simple step at a time. We then proceed through proofing, or correcting, and generalization to ensure you and your dog can demonstrate the obedience commands in the house, on walks, with other dogs, around cats and other animals. Appalachian Dog Training's well-organized process will help you and your dog to learn more, faster.
We of course use clickers, treats, and lots of praise for each of their accomplishments. They will absolutely bond to us--training is positively enjoyable--and they will develop an even deeper bond with you. The social-emotional bond between you and your dog opens up that possibility, the possibility for a greater, more fulfilled life for yourself and your canine partner.
What training program is best for you and your dog?
Board & Train is recommended for clients with full schedules, dogs with more challenging behaviors such as socialization or potty training, and those who simply want a more well-trained dog.
Private Training is excellent for clients that can travel to us weekly and dedicate time at home to training their dog. Please note that dogs experiencing aggression are only permitted in our Board & Train program.
Board & Train
Your dog stays with their classmates in our small boarding room that is not loud or scary like a shelter. We promise your dog will not forget you. In fact, clients most often report a more balanced relationship with less stress. They are having more fun and going more places with their dog after training! Awesome!
Dogs exhibiting biting or dog aggression are referred to our Behavior Training program. Please fully share your dog's behaviors before the start of class so we can help you choose the best class for their successful completion.
Private Training
Weekly classes provide an easy plan to train your dog. One-on-one Trainer instruction ensures you receive a full hour of learning and hands-on experience. Learn house training, obedience, dog socialization, nutrition, grooming and more. You will also learn to identify canine language signals to better understand what your dog is communicating. Classes are held weekday evenings.
Training Center
Our Training Center in Mills River, NC provides a spacious indoor and outdoor facility with several fenced training yards. Enjoy a multitude of socialization experiences and learning opportunities in a safe and comfortable learning environment.
