Golden Retriever Co-Own Program:
All ​Training Included!


Co-Own Home Requirements 

Co-owners participate in ADT’s program by raising and assisting in training an AKC Golden Retriever for the breeding of two litters. The co-owner regularly returns the dog to ADT for Training Schedule Requirements, breeding, and whelping.

Compensation for providing your home, care, and time in raising ADT’s selected breeding dog is a wonderfully trained, well-tempered AKC Golden Retriever, a $13,000 value.  You can obtain a golden retriever of excellence for exchange of your time, commitment and dedication to ADT's program.

Co-owner must live within Asheville area and routinely transport dog to ADT for training programs, breeding, and whelping. Co-ownership is time sensitive and time-demanding and is not for everyone! Please review ADT's Training Schedule Requirements to better understand your time commitment and involvement in transporting and training the dog.

Co-owner will be without their dog during the board & train programs, breeding, and whelping. Board & Train is 3 weeks each, Refresher Training is 1 week, breedings are 1 week, and whelping is 8 weeks. Co-owner can expect to be without their dog for an average of 2-4 months each year. Times may be extended at the discretion of ADT. 

ADT understands life has unexpected changes and that ADT breeding dogs are beloved family pets, too. In the event the Co-owner does not meet ADT’s training, breeding, and whelping requirements, the dog must be returned to ADT immediately, or the Co-owner may request to keep the dog and pay the buyout fee. 

The optional dog buyout fee is a fee assessed for the cost of the dog plus each training program it has completed. This allows the Co-owner to purchase the dog and terminate participation in ADT’s program.

The dog buyout fee is waived in the event the co-owner completes ADT’s breeding program or the dog is terminated from breeding program.

The co-owner has contractual obligation to ADT during and after training, breeding, and whelping requirements of 2 litters has been met. When these requirements are met, the dog is spayed/neutered.

ADT Provides:

AKC Golden Retriever
Vaccines
Veterinary care for breeding & whelping
Spay/neuter surgery
Training Programs


Co-owner Provides:

​Food (brands authorized by ADT)
Crate & Supplies 
Veterinary care for routine needs (exams, care, medications, etc)
Travel to ADT for training programs, breeding, and whelping


ADT’s Training Schedule Requirements:

2-4 months, Puppy Head Start B&T
4 months, Puppy Head Start Private Training
6 months, On Leash B&T
1st heat cycle, Refresher Training B&T
12 months, Off Leash Training B&T
18 months, Refresher Training B&T
24 months, Refresher Training B&T
2nd heat cycle, breeding/Refresher Training B&T
24+ months, whelping 1st litter
3rd heat cycle, breeding/Refresher Training B&T
24+ months, whelping 2nd litter



Responsibilities

  • Co-owner must adhere to ADT’s training, breeding, and whelping schedule and requirements
  • ADT will spay/neuter dog after completion of breeding program and transfer ownership to co-owner
  • Co-owner must return dog to ADT in any event they cannot keep the dog
  • Co-owner may never give, sell, adopt out, or surrender dog to an organization or individual
  • Co-owner must return dog to ADT or buyout dog in the event of failure to return dog for training, breeding, or whelping
  • Co-owner must pay buyout fee for unauthorized spay/neuter
  • Neglected or abused dogs must be returned to ADT and are not eligible for buyout fee
  • ADT will take legal action for breech of contract


Co-owner Benefits & Buyout Fees

These listed fees are the current prices for our training programs. This is the value of the training our goldens receive in our Co-owner Program.

“Buyout” refers to the cost of the dog + cost of completed training programs. Co-owner may choose to buyout dog anytime the dog is not pregnant/whelping.
