On Leash Obedience commands include PLACE, SIT, DOWN, (IMPLIED) STAY, COME, HEEL, CRATE, OFF, and QUIET. Your dog is expected to be on the leash to perform their commands reliably.
This training is for dogs at/over 6 months age or for dogs who have completed our Puppy Head Start program previously.
Veterinary requirements are DHPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, Rabies vaccine, and Fecal float plus Giardia antigen snap test (negative result).
We teach your dog how to learn by following the learning stages teaching, correcting, proofing, and maintaining. Your dog is taught how to follow a lure (a treat) and will learn that the clicker (sound box) will mark the correct behavior telling them they "won" the treat! Each dog has treat preferences (and some prefer all treats!) so we use a variety of soft treats, cheese, hot dogs, petting, and play.
The obedience commands are put on voice control, making hands signal and treats unnecessary upon completion. Correction is a critical step in our training program. At first thought one may say they never want to limit their dog's freedom or to tell them no. This may sound really nice, however dogs not given rules, boundaries and limitations grow up to be unruly, unwelcome, and unpleasant. We want to provide you and your dog with the best opportunities in life, and by having your dog calm & under control you can take your dog more places and do more things! Now that's living life to the fullest!
On Leash obedience encourages calm, relaxed behavior in your adult dog. By blocking excited behavior with learned and reliable obedience commands you can stop jumping, pulling, barking and most unwanted behaviors. In our program you will learn how to decipher excitement vs. happiness and how to encourage calm/relaxed behavior and how to block excited behavior with obedience.
